Ambergris Caye Traffic Regulations

As far as driving on Ambergris Caye, these road rules promoted by the Belize Tourism Industry Association and the San Pedro Town Council will help you stay safe and avoid tickets.

• Drivers must hold a valid license and be a minimum of 18 years old.

• No drinking and driving.

• No parking in front of red curbs.

• No excess passengers.

• Observe speed limits.

• Use hand signals when turning.

• Lock cart when parked.

Navigating San Pedro Town

Driving in downtown San Pedro can be both fun and challenging. The streets are narrow and mostly without sidewalks. Front Street has a sidewalk on the east side, it runs one way north. When driving on front street, beware of taxi stand areas which are marked no parking zones. Next comes Middle Street which runs one way south at the corner of Caribeña Street (it turns two ways heading north). Lastly, Back Street which has a sidewalk on the east side and offers two way traffic.

With the school and rush hour, you will find additional traffic police and detours around town to help keep the flow moving smoothly in all directions.
